Special Pool Programs
Senior Citizens Swim and Adaptive Aquatics
Free swimming time is offered to senior citizens and physically impaired individuals Monday through Friday, beginning the first day after school closes until school begins, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at War Memorial Pool. Admittance is extended to one chaperone, if needed, for physically impaired individuals.
Marlins Swim Team
The Martinsburg Marlins Swim Team is open to boys and girls ages 5-19 prior to June 1, 2011. High school graduates may participate the summer of their senior year as long as they have not attended college full-time or participates on a collegiate team prior to June 1, 2011. The Marlins Swim Team offers Pre-Competitive and Competitive Swimming.
Pre-Competitive Marlins allows swimmers the opportunity to learn and master competitive swim styles such as freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterful as well as entry, exit, finish and turn techniques. Members will develop endurance, familiarity of strokes and preparation required for competition-level swimming. All swimmers should be able to swim 25 meters. Pre-competitive swimmers do not compete in official swim meets.
The Marlins Competitive Travel Team participates in Division II of the Interstate Swim League and follows ISL rules and is open to 125 swimmers. Members must commit to daily swim practices and all scheduled swim meets. Training will emphasize mastering fine points of preferred competition swimming styles, entry, exit, start, finish and turn techniques in compliance with the USA Swimming standards. To be considered for the competitive swim team, a swimmers age 5-8 must independently swim 25 meters and swimmers age 9-19 must independently swim 50 meters. Competitive status is at the discretion of the head coach; final determinations will be made from evaluations during swim practice prior to June 10, 2011.
On-site registration will be held at The Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center in Lambert Park on Saturday, May 14, at 10:00 am and during practice hours, Mon-Fri, May 31st through June 10th.
