2010 American Red Cross Swimming Lessons are now open for enrollment. Please note the following:
• On-line registration is available by clicking the icon below. There is a convenience fee for using this service. You may also call our office and we will send you a registration form to fill out and send in with payment to our office at 273 Woodbury Avenue, Martinsburg WV 25404. There is a $5 multi-child/multi-session discount after the first child or session. Registration will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
We DO NOT take registrations over the phone or by fax.
FOR PARTICIPANTS AGES 6 AND UP
If your child participated in the American Red Cross Swimming Lessons at War Memorial Park last summer and passed level 1, 2, 3, 4A, 5, or Guard Start, you should have received an American Red Cross card in the mail. If so your child will advance to the next level of swim lessons. If your child participated in swimming lessons last summer and you are unsure of the class you need to register them in, you may now check the Activity grade for their class (es) last summer. If you have an existing online account with us, simply login and under the first header “Account Activity” click on “List Activity Grades” and you will be able to view the child’s status from their class(es) last summer. If he/she passed level 1,2,3, 4A, 5 or Guard Start last year he/she may be enrolled in the next level. If you do not have an account already set up, you may check the status of your child’s last class when you come in to register. Completing a two-week class is NOT an automatic move to the next level.
FOR PARTICIPANTS AGES 6 AND UNDER
Children who did not participate in swimming lessons or are under the age of 6 should be enrolled in classes according to age. Children must be 6 years old prior to the beginning of a class to enroll in level 1. Children participating in swim lessons for the first time who are 7 years old or older should be enrolled in level 2. Any adjustments that need to be made based on swim skill will be made the first day of class.
• For Levels 1,2,3,4 Advanced and Guard Start: at the conclusion of your class, the instructor will inform you as to whether or not your child has passed the class. American Red Cross cards will be issued and sent to the address given on the child’s form by the end of September.
• Classes will be taught at War Memorial Park Pool located off of Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg unless noted on the registration form.

Notice to Swim Lesson Parents:
REFUND POLICY - Please make a note of dates and times of classes for which you registered your child. You will be contacted only if the class is already full or cancelled. Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation will give refunds only for classes we are unable to offer.
WEATHER ALERT - In the event of thunderstorms, on the first day we will have safety instruction in the pool house, on the following stormy days classes will be cancelled. This is only if it is STORMING during class time. If it is JUST raining (not storming) classes will be held. Attendance, of course, during rain or storms is always at the parent's discretion.
SWIM LESSON PARKING - Swim lesson parents are encouraged to park in the lower lot or along Tennessee Avenue and bring students around to the gate with the sign "SWIM LESSON ENTRANCE." This is NOT the gate behind the concession stand or the gate by the bathhouse.
GATES - Parents and students need to enter through the gates to the grassy area on the east side of the pool.
PARENTS MUST REMAIN BEHIND THE FENCE DURING CLASSTIME. PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE ON THE POOL DECK DURING INSTRUCTION. |
