Please note the following information for the 2011 Swim Program at Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation.
On-line registration for the 2011 Swimming Lessons offered at War Memorial pool will open April 1, 2011 at 9am. There is a convenience fee for using this service. You may also mail or hand deliver the attached swim lesson registration form with payment to our office at 273 Woodbury Avenue, Martinsburg WV 25404. There is a $5 multi-child/multi-session discount after the first child or session. Registration will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For preschool through Level 5: at the conclusion of your class, the instructor will inform you as to whether or not your child has passed the class & you will receive a skills card.
All skills in a level must be mastered before a student is moved to the next level. Completing a two-week class is not an automatic move to the next level. Children who have not participated in swimming lessons previously should be assigned to classes according to age. Children must be 6 years old prior to the beginning of class to enroll in Level 1. Children participating in swim lessons for the first time who are 7 years old or older should be enrolled in Level 2. Any adjustments that need to be made based on swim skill will be made the first day of class.
Classes will be taught at War Memorial Park Pool located off of Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg
Refund Policy: Please make a note of the dates and times of classes for which you registered your child. You will be contacted ONLY IF THE CLASS IS ALREADY FULL OR CANCELLED. M-BC Parks & Recreation will give refunds only for classes we are unable to offer. |

| Please note: Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation will not be offering a Lifeguarding Course this year (2011). Please contact Shepherd College or the Hagerstown YMCA if you are interested in taking an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Class. |
Notice to Swim Lesson Parents:
REFUND POLICY - Please make a note of dates and times of classes for which you registered your child. You will be contacted only if the class is already full or cancelled. Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation will give refunds only for classes we are unable to offer.
WEATHER ALERT - In the event of thunderstorms, on the first day we will have safety instruction in the pool house, on the following stormy days classes will be cancelled. This is only if it is STORMING during class time. If it is JUST raining (not storming) classes will be held. Attendance, of course, during rain or storms is always at the parent's discretion.
SWIM LESSON PARKING - Swim lesson parents are encouraged to park in the lower lot or along Tennessee Avenue and bring students around to the gate with the sign "SWIM LESSON ENTRANCE." This is NOT the gate behind the concession stand or the gate by the bathhouse.
GATES - Parents and students need to enter through the gates to the grassy area on the east side of the pool.
PARENTS MUST REMAIN BEHIND THE FENCE DURING CLASSTIME. PARENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE ON THE POOL DECK DURING INSTRUCTION. |
